Man 46, dies after drinking ‘ogogoro’ in Cross River

A 46-year-old man, simply identified as Ubong has died after allegedly consuming illicit drink popularly referred to as (Ogogoro) in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State.

Eyewitness told our reporters that the incident occurred at, 42 Punch Street off Victor-Akan in Calabar South LGA when the deceased could not wake up due to the ethanol he consumed the previous night.

An eyewitness, Epke Otu who spoke to ERICGOSSIP.COM said the deceased collected his six months rent from his tenants and decided to go on a drinking spree but never woke up the next day.

“He has a three-room apartment which he inherited as his share from their father’s property but decided to give them all out for rent, he just collected the rent on one of them for six months and decided to drink.

“He drank to stupor as usual because we always see him sleeping either in front of the lock up shops near us or the gutter.

“We taught he was just sleeping as usually but when we went close to him, that was when we discovered that he was no longer breathing”, he said.

 The incident caused panic among shop owners, Otu added.

“We locked up our shops and ran away for fear of arrest and molestation by police. Later, his family members came and carried his corpse because they didn’t want his corpse to be taken away by Calabar Urban Development Agency (CUDA),” he said.
