Police investigate SARS officers over alleged sexual harassment

The Kwara State police have begun an investigation into an alleged sexual harassment of a lady in Ilorin by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Kachi Anifela Zion, had on Monday, through her Instagram page -@69bars, alleged that some SARS officers accosted her at ‘Pipeline Area’ in Ilorin at the weekend, accused her of prostitution and searched her. She specifically accused one of the officers of inserting his fingers into her private parts.

Reacting on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Zone 2 Police Command, SP Dolapo Badmus, said she had contacted the Commissioner of Police in Kwara who assured her that necessary actions would be taken over the alleged sexual harassment.

Badmus who reacted on Instagram said she received the disturbing news on Monday, October 16, 2017, and reached out to Kachi to recount her ordeal.

She wrote, “Yesterday 16th of October I received various tags about the complaint of a young lady who was allegedly rough handled by some policemen.

“I reached out to her, she recounted her ordeals. I did a follow-up to Kwara state where the alleged incident occurred.

“The commissioner of police in the state through the PPRO are looking into the matter, members of the public including the complainant should rest assured that justice will prevail. Thanks to you all for your cooperation and trust.”

The lady narrated the events on her Instagram page, @69bars. She claimed the officers harassed and forcefully pushed her into a police truck.

Kachi said the SARS officials stopped her at ‘Pipeline area’ and asked why she had yahoo applications on her phone.

She further revealed that the SARS official threatened to beat her if she shouted, adding that the officer continued to fondle, rough handle and humiliate her for several minutes.
