The prayer sessions which lasted for several hours was organised by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdul-rasheed Akanbi and had many traditionalists in attendance who jointly prayed for the President and the country.
One of the chiefs, (the Ekerin Oluwo), Adebayo Aremu, said the prayer sessions were also meant to foster peace among all religious adherents and to pray for the good of the country.
According to the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Akanbi the event which took place at the palace court, Iwo, was specially organised to appreciate God for the safe return of the President following his medical vacation in the UK as well as to commit the country in the hands of God.
He also called on Nigerians to always pray for their leaders because according to him, they carry on their shoulders the destiny of the populace.
He explained further that the prayer was organised not for any political reason, but in respect to the dictates of the Holy Books which urge the adherents to always pray for their leaders.
Oba Akanbi also opined that those calling for Buhari’s resignation were mischievous and queried that “should every sick civil servant, political office holder, monarch be asked to resign, who will run government?”
He, therefore, stated that Buhari has genuine intentions to transform the country by plugging all leakages through which resources of the country are being stolen, and called on Nigerians to rally support for him in prayers.
