Herdsmen killings: Buhari disappointed us during Benue visit, it was a waste of time– Elder Ujege

Edward Ujege, the President General of Mdzough U Tiv, has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent visit to the, “unsettled” state yielded no positive impact.

Ujege said the people of Benue were very disappointed over the outcome of Buhari’s visit in the state, that it was just a waste of time.

Speaking with newsmen in Makurdi, the state capital, Ujege said during the president’s visit to the state, the hope was high as the people expected him to act like a father, proffering solutions to their many problems.

He said their expectation was, however, dashed.

According to Ujege, “We expected that he would make a pronouncement or give us hope that he would compensate and give relief to the IDPs. We didn’t hear anything of the such.

“We had requested for security agents to make it possible for the IDPs to go back to their ancestral homes; there was nothing like that. So I don’t know whether that is his own way of doing things, but we had expected much more.

“An operation is more intense because they will make sure that they disarm the invaders. Till today, we do not know why it was changed to an exercise.”

Ujege noted that rampant killing and farmland destruction in Benue and in Nigeria by suspected herdsmen may lead to food scarcity across the federation.

He said, ” We may not be able to feed ourselves not to talk about commercial farming.

“There will be shortage of yam, cassava, millet, name it. The invaders have killed all they met in our communities. In fact, Benue State and indeed the entire country would be adversely affected by the crisis.”
