Man to receive 6 strokes of cane for attempt to commit offence

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, has ordered that six strokes of the cane be given to a 25-year- old scavenger, Abdullahi Usman, for criminal trespass, mischief and attempt to commit an offence.


The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, ordered that Usman be flogged after he admitted committing the offence and begged the court to tamper justice with mercy.


Sadiq, who warned the convict to desist from committing crime in future, added that the court might not be lenient with him the next time he appeared before it.


Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Florence Avhioboh, had told the court that the convict, of no fixed address, was arraigned on three-count charge.


She said the matter was reported by Monday Tanko, a security guard attached to Redeemed Christian Church of God, Bergeryard Life Camp Abuja at Life Camp police Station on Sept. 29.


The prosecutor said the convict jumped into the Church Aàaààpremises and pulled down the PVC ceiling in the building and when he noticed that Tanko had seen him, he tried to run away but was caught.


She said the offences contravened sections 345, 327 and 95 of the Penal Code.
