Mother charged with murder after killing her newborn baby

Rachel Tunstill, 25, has been arrested and charged 
with murder after her baby - named only as "Infant
 Tunstill" - was found inside a kitchen bin at a flat
 in Burnley. 

According to the ERIC GOSSIP, a newborn baby at the
 centre of a murder investigation was killed by multiple 
stab wounds, an inques heard.

The baby girl, named only as "Infant Tunstill", 
was found dead in a kitchen bin at a flat in Burnley, Lancashire, on January 16 at around 4pm.

A post mortem conducted at the Royal Blackburn
 Teachers Hospital ruled the cause of death as multiple
 stab wounds .

The inquest at Blackburn Enterprise Centre heard the
 baby ' mother, Rachel Tunstill, 25, has been arrested 
and charged with murder.

East Lancashire coroner Michael Singleton said: 
"I will adjourn this mention hearing until March 2
 anticipating the inquest will be suspended due to
 crown court proceedings."

Tunstill is due to appear at Preston Crown Court for
 a pre - trial hearing on April 7.

Speaking after Tunstill was charged with murder, 
Detective Chief Inspector Jill Johnston, of Lancashire
 Police, said:

 "Following a complex investigation and after consulting
 with the Crown Prosecution Service we have today
 charged the mother of the newborn baby with murder.

"We are completely satisfied that the man who was arrested

was not involved in the baby's death.

"He has been released without charge and my thoughts 
are with him at this difficult time.

"Both he and the baby's wider family are being supported
 by specially trained officers.

"I would like to thank the community for their
 co-operation  and understanding during what has so 
far been a difficult  and sensitive enquiry and I am 
sure that co-operation will continue."
