Lily Allen has been slammed by members of the
LGBTI community after she tweeted about her new
anti- Donald Trump video.
The Smile singer was met with backlash when she
quoted a tweet from Gay Times about her video, adding
the comment "Fags hate Trump".
Lily was referencing a placard that bears the slogan
which is held up by a protester in her video, a cover of
Rufus Wainwright's Going To A Town, but some people
were offended by her use of the word.
Lily filmed the black and white music video at the
Women's March in London, one of many events
organised against the 45th President of the United
States.
It features hundreds of protesters marching with
signs, bearing slogans like, 'No to racism no to
Trump', ' Brexit and Trump sound the alarm', and
'Fags hate Trump'.
The lyrics to the song send a strong message too,
with lines like 'I'm so tired of America' and 'Tell me,
do you really think you go to hell for having loved?'
But after Lily shared her tweet, a few people hit back at her.
One wrote: "please don't refer to us as FAGS, we are
lesbian,gay,bisexual,transgender if anyone has to
be labeled."
Another posted: "and this "fag" hates you, love."
Another person asked: "it's on the picture!!! Would you
call a black man a nigger, because others do? No
you wouldn't, don't call us. OK?"
Others hit back at the singer, saying that just because
they weren't heterosexual, didn't mean they
hated the President.
"I'm gay and voted for Trump," wrote one person.
Another posted: "Look SillyAllen, I'm trans and I still
love Trump! Hes a man with balls, will do a good job.Period!!"
However, others jumped to her defence, saying she
was simple quoting a poster.
One person wrote: "it's on the poster on the picture".
Another said: "Placard is held by gay person who's using
the word fags in a positive, affirming way, as gesture
of pride & defiance".
Despite the backlash, Lily has not deleted the tweet.
